How does it work?

We will talk through the proposed design with you. The more information you can give us from the outset, the better. Stone sizes, stone quantities, a finger size, and any pre-production stipulations such as minimum width or height of an element all helps us to make the model what it needs to be first time, speeding up the process. Then we do some clicking.

What do you provide?

As much or as little as you need. Our standard service includes design work and the provision of a water tight STL file (or files) of your model along with technical sketches and a single high resolution render. STL files are industry standard and can be used to create resin or wax models and modern casting houses can use these files to produce a metal casting. The file is not limited to a single use and can be printed and cast as many times as needed.

What if I just want to know how something will look?

Maybe you have a couple of designs in mind and aren't sure which way to go, or your customer is undecided between different looks for their engagement ring. We can produce mock-ups to help visualisation and identify potential design or manufacture issues. These drafts can then be adjusted and refined into a production ready model.

What if I want something changed?

If you decide you would like an element of the design to be, say, a bit thicker or a bit higher, we will adjust the model until you are happy with it. Changing a design aspect completely, for example changing centre stone sizes or shapes, will mean additional work. We will always discuss any changes you want to make and any potential for additional cost with you beforehand.

Can I see a 3D model and then take it to get cast?

We can provide consideration model prototypes or wax models suitable for casting. The rule of thumb is that the more durable a 3D printed material is, the less likely it is that it will be capable of producing a good quality, clean metal casting. Directly castable materials tend to be brittle and components such as claws are particularly vulnerable if not handled carefully. A consideration model is more suited to being handled with the downside being it is not going to be able to be used for casting.

Can you tell me what my model will cost to cast?

The software we use can provide weight estimates in near enough every metal alloy which can help to price a job. You do need to bare in mind that the weight provided is for the model as you see it, clean edges and all. The actual weight will vary depending on the processes the casting house uses and will not account for any sprues that may be added to feed models during casting.

Can you cast the model for me?

Absolutely! We will provide you with time, weight and price estimates beforehand.

I want to use the model to make a master pattern. Will this work?

Simply put, yes, if you tell us beforehand! We can scale models to allow them to retain their intended dimensions once they have been cast and cleaned before being moulded as a master pattern.

How much do you charge?

While each job is unique, we do have a baseline cost for our services which is available on request. You can use the form below to get in touch if you need an estimate.

Anything else I should know?

We do it all. Casting, stone supply, assembly, setting and finishing. We can see your project through from start to finish.
